Community Solar

In a Community Solar project users will receive the same benefits as they would from putting solar panels on their property, without needing to own a perfect location.

The panels will be installed in a location that has maximum solar access so the same panels will generate more electricity. And the panels will be adjusted seasonally to increase solar gain and to shed snow in the winter.

To reserve a place in the project, there will be an initial payment of about 25 cents/watt – the typical household needs 5-10,000 watts which equals $1,250 to $2,500. Then monthly lease payments equal to your current electricity bill. After 6 or 7 years, you will have the option to purchase your portion of the project at a price that should work out to less than half the current cost of a similar sized system.

More details will follow soon as they are worked out. The goal is to begin building the system toward the end of the summer (2011) and to have it online and producing electricity by winter.
